I am Shawna L. Handke, and I am a Boston-based artist, although I am a Kansas-native. I studied graphic design and illustration for four years in Kansas. Then, I took a year off from school. I eventually received my degree in Art with an emphasis in painting from the University of Nebraska in 2003. I have always felt like I wanted to be an artist, so you could say that I have always been an artist. Every since my earliest memories as a child, I spent time creating artwork and reflecting on the people who surrounded me. My artwork incorporates a child-like quality, which allows my creativity to emerge. I now have a complete series that shows the nature of this freedom of expression; this is a series of illustrations, called Scribbles--Sketches. They are free-spirited drawings, including expressive lines, and are full of vibrant color. Each piece tells a story of its own, and they all reuse resources that others had carelessly tossed in the trash. I have been selling my artwork on etsy, since 2006, and I just opened a new shop, which will focus mostly on my design work. I have participated in several art shows throughout the country and am seeking new venues continually. Overall, my artwork is an immediate reflection of my life and my interpretation of others' lives.
