As an artist/designer the underlying goal of my art and work is to create beautiful things and happy moments for people. In my contribution I hope to add a sense of peace and serenity, grace and elegance and a bit of utter nonsense to your day.
At best I'd call my art a "doodle of experimentation". In my process I tend to allow each piece to come together naturally. My 15 yr old artist niece described it best when she said of her polymer clay "I just let the clay tell me what it wants to be". Sometimes a piece doesn't always seem to fit my typical "style". For me that's OK. It was it's particular style.
I began crafting as a child. My mom who had been a professional seamstress was an avid crafter with loads of fabrics and notions strewn throughout the house. She taught me to sew but it didn't stick. I was more of a paper & glue crafter so much so that the 1st time I ever loved using a sewing machine was when I learned it sews paper too.
Our home was at all times hectic and a bit stressful. With 12 of us there was just always something going one. But the area where the house was located was the opposite. I guess some would call it a forest.
We were surrounded by a 100+ acre wood (just like Winnie the Pooh) where wildlife roamed freely. A stream ran through the middle with a lovely little knoll of fresh moss off to the side. Perfectly pleasant if you had a good can of bug spray and a bowl to hold the fresh picked blueberries from the dense trees scattered throughout.
I spent many summer days strolling through the path towards the stream with a good book and a vivid imagination. Books like Alice in Wonderland, Watership Down, Jane Eyre, & Silas Marner have shaped my sense of whimsy & beauty. I still allow beautifully written words to inspire my art. And am becoming increasingly fond of researching the infamous figures of the past to tell their stories in new ways.
Yes, there are so many stories to be told and so many ways to tell them. My heart's aim is to invite as many people as would like to come to take a jaunt through the forest on a relaxing day and enjoy a cool breeze, some blueberries and the wonder life holds.
