About Me:

Gender:
Gal
I am a/an:
Independent Artist/Designer, Blogger, Supporter, Shopper, Independent Retailer, Purchasing Agent/Buyer
(Designers only) I create:
Pam creates and sells Pass It On Plates. These plates are a fun and unique way to share treats with special people. These numbered plates travel from person to person gift wrapped in a re-useable, washable cloth PlateWrap. Each Pass It On Plate also tells a story as it travels. A special paint pen is included with the PlateWrap. This pen is used to write one's name on the plate. Simple instructions to cure the paint and make it dishwasher safe and food safe are included with the plate. In addition, each plate number corresponds to an online plate diary where one can leave a message for their recipient to read.
(Designers only) I am willing to do:
Custom orders, Consignment, Wholesaling
(Designers only) My work is sold at:
Etsy, occasional art fairs in NW Oregon/SW Washington, and apparently in person in NW Oregon.

Favorite Designers/Artists:
As a young child my Dad introduced me to Pablo Picasso's art, which I thought was really fun. He also gave me a Miro coloring book (?!) that was very interesting. Over the years I developed a love for the moody and odd, which led me to appreciate Chuck Close (in person, never in small prints), Duane Michels, Klimt, Matisse, Mondrian, yes Goya too, Van Gogh, Marc, and Brian Andreas ("Story People" - please Google him; very fun.)

I also have been searching over the years for the names of two artists whose work I absolutely love. One had an exhibition at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis several years ago. This exhibition featured different rooms. Each room had a different scene, and one was a kitchen with a man sitting at the kitchen table. The walls and floor were white and everything else was painted Pepto Bismol pink. Everything, even the entire man. There were wads of chewed gum stuck on everything pink, making the pink objects look polka dotted.

The other artist I have never been able to identify made marble mosaic tables in El Prado museum in Madrid, Spain. His mosaics were as meticulously handcrafted so the pictures looked like oil paintings. One of these mosaic "paintings" was a scene of an architect's tools and drawings on a table in front of a window overlooking the construction of a church. I had to actually run my hand over the table to find out if it was really mosaic or a painted table. (Yeah, that was allowed.) Tiny joints could be felt between the pieces of marble, but the artists choice of shading in the stone was impressive. Hey, if you know who made these tables, let me know. It's been on my mind since I was there in 1987.
Favorite Music/Musicians:
Fat Boy Slim, Beck, Paolo Conte, Death Cab for Cutie, Diana Krall, The Shins, Ethel Merman, The Cure, Louis Armstrong, Hard Fi, Chemical Brothers, Muse, Norah Jones, Combustible Edison, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Hot Hot Heat, The Gorillaz, PDQ Bach, Jack Johnson, Credence Clearwater Revival, Cheap Trick, The Bo-Deans... Holy cow, an extremely wide range of music.
Favorite TV Show & Movies:
I don't watch much regular network TV except Heroes and Ugly Betty. We tend to watch a lot of The History Channel, Discovery Channel, Food TV, TruTV, sometimes AMC and/or TCM, and for some reason Law & Order SVU is frequently on. We recently had cable's On Demand made available in our area but those movies are not closed-captioned, so that's out.

Our Biggest Pass It On Plate Giveaway Yet!

Over 20 names, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

How would you like to get a free Pass It On Plate? How about a free set of four Pass It On Plates? From July 1 through the end of September, you can enter to win every time you make a plate diary comment. The more plate diary comments you make, the more chances you have to win!

Whoo hoo!

What do I win? At the end of every month we draw the winner of a Flying Plate mug with your choice of gourmet cocoa or gourmet coffee.

And... At the end of September we draw two winners! One winner gets a brand-spankin' new Pass It On Plate ~ and the Grand prize is a set of four brand-spankin' new Pass It On Plates. Winners of these plates get to mix and match the plate color, the PlateWrap, the Pretty Little Doo Dad, and special paint pen color of their choice to totally personalize their prize.

Here's how you can enter:

1. Make a valid plate diary comment. Visit our Plate Diaries at http://passitonplates.blogspot.com/ and find your plate number. Leave a message in your plate's diary, follow the contest instructions on the diary page, then load the plate with treats and pass it on. No purchase necessary, but you do need to be passing the plate as you leave comments. A valid plate comment would be along the lines of "Here is a treat for you," and not "Gee I would really like to win."

2. Send us a picture of your plate. We love love this and will give you two contest entries for these pictures! Let us know the plate number and we'll post the picture in that plate's online diary. We'd love to see how many names you have on your plate!

3. Send us a picture of you with the plate as you Pass It On. We love love love this and will give you three contest entries for these kinds of pictures! With your permission, we'd like to post these pictures in your plate's diary as well. Make sure you tell us your plate number when you send us the pictures.

One note about the pictures: The idea is to keep these plates flying, so one picture per plate please. Don't go crazy and send us 600 pictures of you giving the same plate to Aunt Martha again and again. If you do, still you get three contest entries.

Send your pictures in jpg format to flyingplate [at] passitonplates [dot] com.

The contest starts at 12:01am PST on July 1, 2008. Monthly prizes will be drawn for comments and photos submitted until midnight PST on the last day of each month during the contest. Grand prize winners will be drawn for comments and photos submitted until midnight PST on Sept 30, 2008.

Do you know anyone who is hard to buy for or who has everything?

This set of four Pass It On Plates would definitely help you with your holiday shopping, wouldn't it?

Pass It On Plates

Promoting via Technorati

This past month I have been making several posts regarding Technorati. In simple terms (I hope) I have explained what it is, how it works, and how you can use it to your advantage in promoting your blog or anything you publish that has an RSS feed.

After several posts, my blogging friend, Laurie B posted a Technorati experiment on her own blog. This experiment is designed to boost your Technorati authority. I'm not sure what the end results of… Continue

Pass It On Plates

Branding part II - Developing a Logo

Our first step was to decide on a logo to use. Since this logo would be plastered on everything sent out of our studios, it had to be simple, easy to recognize (not some obscure shape or random photograph,) easy to put on our plates - which means it has to be easy to draw by hand, and unique. We did a little brainstorming and Donna came up with this:

Pass It On Plates

Branding part I - An Introduction

Lately, I've been thinking about how to establish the Pass It On Plates brand. I expect several artists and/or moms out there reading this may wonder,

"Why the heck would Pam care about that?"

Branding is critical for any small business working toward establishing itself and standing out from the competition. While Pass It On Plates may not have a lot of obvious competition in the field of interactive traveling plates, we still compete with everyone else selling gifts.

If you are new t… Continue

We used USPS Priority mail boxes under bright colored fabric to elevate items in back. The boxes will be used later to ship orders. Several plates had cookies on them so visitors could see them "in action."

We borrowed a few plates from friends who have been… Continue

Pass It On Plates

Poppy Paradise

I have a new name!
When I started out, I had no idea what my name was. Read my blog post to find out more about my identity crisis. Thank you to Adrienne for thinking up a great name for me.
I think my new name "Poppy Paradise" is very appropriate. (Even though I do think of Roosters when I look in the mirror, too! LOL)

My husbands bday is the 24th (Exactly a week before mine) So we celebrate our "Birth Week" That way it all gets taken care of. Kind of convienient huh?
