Welcome to Cosmic Hippo Design Studio where everything on this site is handmade by me in high quality leather and suede.

I’ve spent most of my adult life as a production designer which was a fabulous career for a misfit like me. I’ve had no formal training but that has never stopped me. I love using my God-given intuitive skills, love discovering new uses for ordinary objects and appreciate the intricacies of design in all forms.

My collection is one-of-a-kind and can take anywhere from 4 hours to 24+ hours to make a handbag. Its labor intensive and I pretend to ignore the tingling pain that comes from hand punching and lacing. I love the design process and love waking up the next morning to see the finished product.

Besides making handbags, boxes have been a passion of mine since I was a kid. Here I’ve combined leather and ultra suede with ruby matrix and mahjong tiles or bakelite cubes or whatever strikes my fancy. They’re fun, they make great gifts, and who doesn’t need a box to put that special something in?

I also make jewelry, decorate perfume bottles and create collage greeting cards. I guess if something can be made by hand, I’ll find a way to do it.

The challenge of going beyond making gifts for friends and family is that I find myself constantly evaluating and perfecting my craft, which keeps it fresh and exciting.

I offer modest shipping on domestic orders and every so often will offer free shipping on a larger sized handbag. Please convo me for International shipping costs prior to purchase.
