OMG/I hope you don't throw away your broken pottery. Alot of potters will list the shards on etsy for the cost of the listing or a buck plus shipping so they get recycled into art. If you ever want to put pieces and scraps aside just convo me on etsy or here. Seriously. I love working with earthen ware shards.
