I create original fine silver jewelry.... pendants, rings, ear rings, bracelets. I love the creative outlet, and am excited to share it with the public!
I used to sell at juried art fairs and did very well in the beginning. Then Los Angeles began to have too many shows and started taking in handbags made in India. Greed on the part of the show's producers. I opted out. I think you'd do very well at those shows, and at Farmer's Markets. As for boutiques, I've sold at those, too, but filling the orders nearly killed me. After a while I couldn't even blow dry my hair, my hands hurt so much. The stores I've sold to put a tremendous markup on my bags -- 4 times in the case of some boutiques. Made them cost prohibitive. Consignment is a way to go, but there, too, on bags you run the risk of them coming back in less than pristine condition. I'm going to ride it out on Etsy and enjoy doing my craft. I'm also a screenwriter and am in the midst of a rewrite for a producer so I'm at my max in terms of multi-tasking. Crazy life! Do check out the art fairs! I'll also send friends to you.
I'm happy that you made a sale, even if it was to your Mom. Most of my friends were hit hard -- laid off or bleeding funds due to the market collapse. I'm at Hilton corporate headquarters in project finance and the company is moving to Virginia so everyone beneath SVP is being laid off, including me. It's a nasty time but my fund manager says the same thing your company says. I'm just going to bite the bullet and do more Etsy showcases otherwise no one will find me. There are 5,800 plus pages of handbags & wallets out there, mainly very inexpensive items and some downright horrible (in my not so humble opinion). I flipped through 91 pages and still didn't see my bags.
Thanks for your input. Satin is probably the way to go. Good luck on your sale. My one week sale has come up with zip so far. It's just a bad time to be selling stuff people don't really need. Onward to better times and more sales!

Glenn
Thanks! Not to belabor this but I use the sample I photographed every day and love it. I still need to perfect the interior lining. It's becoming cost prohibitive to line my bags in leather as I've been doing. I'm torn about this because I love the way it looks, but I may be the only one who cares about this feature. Any opinions?
Ah thank you, I'm a show off so getting compliments on my stuff is a total good day for me. I hope we see you down here for our boutique, perhaps as a vendor considering how beautiful and unique your jewelry is.
